Running More Now

My daughter is going out for cross country this fall and has started running every weekday at the team course. Can’t really go to a great cross country running course and not run, right? So, Susan and I are running about 3 miles every day now and really enjoying it.

I have decided to write more than once a month as I dig out of a deep dark place.

This morning was our first early morning run. I made sure to get to bed early last night since Sue and I wanted to run this morning. I was able to wake up quickly, bundle up in my cold weather running gear and did an easy, slow 2 miles. Not bad.

Running Every Day

Just a quick update. Ran 4 miles today, which is the longest run since knee surgery last year. Feeling pretty good, and taking it very easy. I was very slow, but don’t want to push anything for at least two or three weeks.

Goal Update

It is about 27 degrees with a wind chill of 19. I just finished a nice slow, cold 2 mile run. So far, the run every day goal is going fine. I did weight training yesterday instead of running, but have exercised every day this year so far.

Writing daily. See this. So far, so good.

Reading Daily. Check. Read from ‘From the Corner of His Eye’ today at lunch and will read more before bed tonight.

Goals for 2010

I always try to review the past year and make plans for the new year on the week or so around New Year’s Day. This year, with NYD being on a Friday, I have a nice long weekend to make this review.

So far, my goals for the next year:
Run every day. This requires a little clarification. I used to run every day, and it worked very well. When you have a goal to run every day, there is never a question of “is today a running day”. It is always a running day. Over the past year, with knee surgery and weight gain, I’ve not been running every day, but this year will be much better.

Another benefit of a “run every day” plan is that whenever there is a good reason to skip, you can skip with no worries, because tomorrow is a running day too. In fact, the way I used to work the “run every day” plan, at least one or two days ended up a skip day for rest, or weather, or whatever. That’s my major goal for the year.
